Some stats to start with: Age 26 (in his prime) Supercoach averages 2005-125 (22games), 2006-120 (22games), 2007-117 (22games), 2008-102 (21games), 2009-116 (21games)
My first point is his durability. As you can see here in plain sight he really hasnt missed many games. Tick one in the box for getting consistant points for your team. Point two is have a look at the history of scoring in this guy. In 2008 he had a drop in form, Lyon and the leadership gave him a royal kick up the arse, and in 2009 he was great. We also learn from the prospectus that he is ranked in the top 10 for disposals (2nd at the saints), kicks and loose ball gets, so this tells us that he can get his own ball and will dispose of it. So how does he dispose of it I hear you ask, well lets look at his kick to handball ratio (kicking as a disposal in SC usually adds to more points).
Kicks vs handballs 2005-1:6, 2006-1:6: 2007-1:5 2008-1:6 2009-1:3
Lets look past 2005-2007 as it was a different team, with a lot of developing players and different coach from 2007 onwards. The conclusion here that Im trying to draw attention to is that in 2009 he kicked the ball 1 out of every 3 disposals, where in 2008 he kicked 1 out of every 6. That to me = more points.
I also hear you saying, what about Montagna! His scoring over the last 5 years has been average apart from his 126 last year. He did not handle a tag in the 09 finals or the grand final for that matter, and I am concerned that this year will be no different, but will also be more of a target of opposing clubs. This could also mean that Nicky Dal will get the 2nd or 3rd tag, or be left to play his game, and hence another reason I like him for 2010 (afterall Montagna could be a good upgrade target later in the season).
Id love to hear what you guys think, what role do you see him playing? Will he get tagged? Is he in your team?

I brought NDS into my side today. Dropped Mitchell for him. I just think that based on last year Montagna will cop the no. 1 tag.
He's my only Saint midfielder and hope that he can improve on his form last year

I dropped Mitchell For Dal Santo as well. But im still not sure about it. All week i have been tossing up between him, Pendlebury and Selwood. Just cant seem to make a decision.

I'd probably go Selwood, Dal Santo, Pendlebury.

Was very disappointed with Nick Dal santo only scoring 78 Supercoach Points. Not very good compared to his average 116 pts a game in 2009.

There just something about NDS that makes me want to steer clear. I seem to get the impression that he can find it hard to shake a tag during the course of a game. Despite his higher averages, he seems to be more of a flat-track bully and less reliable than some other options. Am I wrong on that?

Fozza, I reckon you would regret that in the long run.

The only problem with Dal Santo is that the Saints have too many quality Midfielders who get more of the Ball such as Hayes & Montagna. Whereas Swan is able to shrug the Tag so if you are going to make a trade Swan is the Player to pick up.

This week looks to be a great time to bring NDS in I reckon. The 46 from the Carlton game will be going out of his 3 round average and at around $500k he looks an absolute steal. He has one of the highest scoring ceilings of all midfielders and he should pull in a solid 115PPG for the rest of the season. I just wish Goodes wasn't bottomed out at the same time along with Tadgh's injury.

Dal Santo had a very good game today scoring 124 SC points but i think that Lenny Hayes is still the better player maybe look at picking him up.

Is the difference in ability enough to justify the extra cost at the moment though? I would say not, although it is arguable.

I'm not sure what Lenny Hayes is at now, because he had that huge game he could be quite expensive, however I would take him over NDS anyday, NDS is one of the worst at handling tags in the league.
