Positives
After Charman and Leuenberger went down for the season, Clark was finally given the chance to let loose on the competition as a mobile ruck. His strength as a ruckman was more his output around the ground than it was his tap work. His mobility and tank for a man of his height often left his direct opponent trailing by a mile. This saw him often left with plenty of space. He averaged 6 marks and 16 disposals a game in ’09 and has the potential to further increase that. He recorded astronomical improvement from ’08 to ’09 (going from a 57 to a 94 average!) Once he got going (from round 8 onward), Clark averaged a Cox-like 116, so as highly as he’s priced there does seem to be some value still in Clark.

Negatives
The return of Charman and Leuenberger is obviously going to reduce his time on ball. The extent of this, however, won’t be seen until the season opens. I’d think his role in the side will very much depend game to game. He should spend most games with a fair chunk of it in the ruck, but there will be games where he’s going to be needed in the back or forward lines – which might take away from his scoring.

Conclusion
The mobility and tank on a man this size is mind-boggling. Without a doubt – a premium ruck.

The guy is a champion already, only 22 & still improving. I was concerned about Charman taking too much ruck time from Mitch – but even after he returns from the injury to his “good” ankle, he will take a while to get going and play in the ruck for extended periods. Even in the worst case scenario (Charman taking over the main ruck duties in the 2nd half of the season) I think Clark will still rack up big numbers around the ground – particularly mopping up in defense. A lock for my 2nd ruck – stiff not to be All Australian last year!

I think Charman will probably be back before round 5, so I think there is a bit of a worry that charman/berger will reduce his points. Still, def a solid pick.

With Charman down for a long period of time, I think he will spend more time in the ruck, but Leuenberger will be given much more time to develop in that role.
